thinking about it

Twiddling My Thumbs

Shimmer Magazine is a beautiful publication. Beautifully bound, beautiful covers with beautiful artwork. Often surprising fiction. Short fiction (under five thousand word pieces) dealing with a variety of genre material. They also print small publications for the reader in the form of a small chap-let of a single story for their subscribers.

No, I'm being too chatty. Although all that is true, what I wanted to note was their announcement this week of a theme issue, Clockwork Jungle.

Think “Steampunk Fables.” We’re looking to explore the steampunk sub-genre through a series of short, succinct fables, preferably using a variety of animals to give the issue a particular feel and theme.

Of course, there is more information upon the website. About steampunk. About fables. About ideals for stories that they use as examples. Cool stuff.

Of course, I'm thinking about all this. Thoughts like mosquitoes buzzing the steamy summer air as the sun sets and the night lights come on.

I'm not very strong on steampunk, although my heart loves a Victorian setting a Victorian mentality. I'm not strong on fable, but I'm occasionally good on vignette forms. I'm okay upon adapting certain themes within a few short works. Maybe.

Maybe.

Or maybe someone I know knows the perfect fable to write for this publication.
